Improving foodpanda’s order management tool

During 2015’s Edition of the FireUpMyMac contest, Andrej Guran qualified and won the contest by writing an article on how he improved one of his app’s performance with the help of Blackfire’s profiling utility.

He works at foodpanda. This platform enables people in over 10 countries in Asia and Middle-East to order food delivery from restaurants near them. Andrej was asked to figure ut a solution for their call center, where support managers were complaining about slowness of the order management tool.

Using NewRelic, he figured out 2 things: 1) some specific requests were slower than others 2) most of the time was spent in PHP. And that’s especially where Blackfire can do the magic.

Once he figured out in which situation users where experiencing slowness, finding the root cause in the code was instantaneous.
