Collaborating on Multiple Projects via Organizations

By Christophe Dujarric, on Dec 21, 2018

Blackfire is a great tool to collaborate on profiling and (automated) performance testing. Environments are very flexible, and let companies set teams and workflows according to their own specific context, disregarding the number of machines or applications they want to profile.

New feature: Organizations

With Organizations, we wanted to give even more flexibility to work on separate projects. That can be companies with multiple apps, or web agencies with multiple customers. That can be freelance performance experts invited by multiple customers on their Blackfire environments to do their magic.

What is an Organization?

This first release enables users to create multiple Organizations under a same account, and be invited to multiple Organizations. Organizations hold Premium or Enterprise subscriptions, as well as Blackfire environments.

Collaborators are added under the Settings tab of an environment. We are working on more features to easily deal with multiple teams and multiple environments within an Organization.

What if I am using Blackfire alone?

As the Profiler subscription is made for single users, they do not need Organizations. A freelancer might for instance have their own Profiler subscription, and be invited to customer Organization on a temporary basis. In this way such users do not need to have multiple Blackfire accounts anymore, which makes it possible for them to have a simpler management of their client credentials (a single set for any project they would work on).

Why do I see a “Default Organization” in my account?

When releasing the Organizations feature, we had to migrate all Premium and Enterprise subscriptions (and environments) to an Organization. “Default Organization” is just the default name, which you can change via the Settings tab of your Organization, where you can also add a custom icon, and more.

Is there anything I should do or change in my workflows?

No. You can still benefit from the exact same user experience than before. This update should be transparent to you. We only opened more options, which you are free to use. If you where used to navigate to your profiles via the environment list, it is still available.

On the other hand, if you are in a situation where you would need, for instance, to create a new organization and transfer some of your environments to it, please reach out to us for some support.

Happy profiling,
