Transparency matters: an update on our latest release.
Last week, we rolled out front-end observability and automatically opt our customers in without their explicit consent.
We recently introduced front-end observability to help you track Web Vitals and browser performance alongside your back-end metrics. Instead of announcing it first and offering it as an opt-in, the feature was automatically enabled on several projects.
That meant a JavaScript tracking probe was added to your site without your explicit consent. That’s not okay
We’ve heard your concerns, and we agree: you should always be in control of the code that runs on your application.
What we’ve done since:
- We quickly rolled back the feature entirely a few hours after the first reports.
- Front-end observability is going to be rolled out again on an opt-in-only basis.
- We are designing a more rigorous release process to minimize the chances of this happening again.
What’s next?
